To be honest, I'm always surprised when someone tells me they've never read a comic. Not everyone grew up obsessed with Batman?! I always ask why and they usually say one of two things.
1) I don't like superheroes.2) I don't know where to start.
Obviously I find it a little difficult to continue to be friends with someone who doesn't like superheroes, but that's another story. If capes, special powers and a ton of spandex isn't really your thing, there are tons of comics that aren't super related so that shouldn't be a reason to not pick one up.
Not knowing where to start? Yeah, I can understand that. It's hard to start a movie in the middle and pick up on a show mid-season, so it's hard to find where to start in a comic series or even know which one to choose.
