How To: Pack for Comic-Con

The countdown is on for San Diego Comic-Con! While organizing what panels you're going to try to get to, making a list of which exclusives you're going to buy and checking out which parties you want to attend, don't forget to make your list of things to pack!

Comfy shoes: You're going to do a lot of walking and a ton of standing in line. Make sure you bring shoes you can sit, stand and walk in all day and night. If you're going to wear heels or boots, throw some small slip-ons into the bag you're going to be using during the day.

Geeky gear: Pack your Adventure Time tees, Star Wars tanks, and other geeky clothes. This is the place to let your fandom shine in everything from your Marvel headband to Wonder Woman backpack. I'd even throw in some geeky party dresses and bathing suits/bikinis. My only advice is to pack stuff you'll be comfortable and cool in. Heads up, it's going to be in the 70s/80s in San Diego!

Costumes and Cosplay: While its not a requirement to dress up, it's definitely a lot more fun. (Here's me as Poison Ivy in 2011). Just make sure you follow all the policies if your costume has any weapons. And while a lot of people opt to make their own costumes, I've found most of my costumes on Etsy or I've used rentals. You don't have to be a professional seamstress to have fun and try out cosplay. Make sure you pack all the pieces, shoes, accessories and makeup to complete the look.

A positive attitude: It's going to be hot. A ton of people will be there. Chances are you're not going to get to everything you want to see. Remember you're all there because you're fans. Be helpful, be nice and stay positive and it will help you and everyone around you have an amazing experience.

Other things to keep in mind:
  • Bring a cardboard tube if you want to protect any posters.
  • Bring a Sharpie for any signatures on the go.
  • Have extra battery packs & external chargers for your phone/camera to keep you charged up.
  • Waiting at Hall-H for hours can be pretty brutal so bring a water bottle and plenty of snacks.
  • A deck of Are You A Werewolf? or another small game will help pass the time waiting for a panel and will save some battery life on your phone.
  • You don't have to get all the free swag. Chances are you're going to be out all day so don't get stuck carrying stuff around that you don't really even want.
Have fun out there! Do you have any tips of your own?
